Spoilers follow for the most recent Doctor Strange movie.
A lot has been said about the arc that Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, went on during Marvel Studios’ recent super-horror movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Some viewers were irked by her villainous role, feeling that it flew in the face of the development she was given (not to mention Elizabeth Olsen’s performance) in the critically acclaimed series WandaVision.
However, fans of Wanda were at least able to walk away knowing that she was the most powerful character in that movie; Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange was no match for her, and ultimately the only person shown to be capable of defeating her was… well, her.
A new video on the Marvelous Wave channel explores the possibility that Wanda might actually be the most powerful character ever depicted in the MCU to date, citing her telepathic and telekinetic abilities, which enable her to decimate the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj and even Professor X himself. Then there is her power to spontaneously create life out of nothing, as evidenced by her manifesting Vision, Tommy and Billy in a moment of grief in WandaVision.
And unlike other magically gifted MCU characters like Doctor Strange and Agatha Harkness, Wanda is completely self-taught: she had no coven or mountaintop monastery schooling her, just a copy of the Darkhold and a pack of highlighter pens.
“In the comics, however, this is only a taste of the power that the fabled Scarlet Witch showcases,” the video states. This means that despite her apparent demise at the end of Multiverse of Madness, it is far from likely that we’ve seen the last of her, and that she is almost certain to return to sow chaos and break viewers’ hearts all over again.
Which is some nice news for Wanda stans.
