Are you afraid you will not pass your English proficiency test? Stop worrying. You have already passed it.

Your test may be two months away, three weeks away, or tomorrow. Whenever you begin to worry about your test, replace your worrying thoughts about the future with positive thoughts. Tell yourself the exact number of years you have been studying English: I have been studying English for 10 years. Because I have been studying English for 10 years, I know English very well. I am sure to pass my test. These sentences are called affirmations. An affirmation is an unusual kind of sentence that has the power to change a negative state of mind into a positive state of mind.

Even if you already took this test and did not pass it, I am advising you to think of it now as if you had already passed it. Yes, you will need to take the test again. But you do not need to worry about it. If you studied English in school for many years, then you already know how to read, listen, speak, and write English. Passing the test is just a formality you are required to go through, like signing your name at the bottom of a letter. Close your eyes and imagine that these words are written on a letter: Everything went well. I passed my test. In your imagination, sign that letter.

The day before the test, if your mind is in a relaxed state, it is okay to study all you want. But that night, rest and sleep. The morning of the test, eat a good breakfast. This is just common sense. But if you are tense and worried, you may not do well on your test. Affirmations can help you stop worrying. Here is a list of affirmations for the day of your test. For these to work, please say these words, either silently or aloud, over and over again, until you are in a calm state of mind:

I understand English very well.

I am comfortable in the exam room.

I understand all the questions.

I read English well.

I speak English well.

I write well in English.

Listening to English is easy for me.

I am relaxed taking this test.

This test is easy.

I am so glad I passed my test.

Have you ever seen the complete dictionary of the English language? It is too big! The English language has too many words! Nobody knows all these words, not even English professors teaching in a university. I am a native speaker of English, and when I write, I often have to cross everything out and start again. You are right to think that English is a hard language, but you are not right to worry about that.

So, stop worrying about your English. Your job is simply to relax and stay in a positive state of mind. Be reasonable! To pass your test, you only have to be good enough, not perfect.
